Ladies: Enfield Town 1-4 Watford FC
Watford FC Ladies made it three pre-season wins on the bounce with a convincing victory away against Enfield Town Ladies on Sunday afternoon (August 12).
Armand Kavaja's Golden Girls turned on the style as they defeated an energetic Enfield of the division below. New summer signing Roschelle Shakes scored a hattrick, as the Hornets dominated proceedings from the off.
Midfielder Emily Hill also scored from the spot, as a mixed Watford FC XI continued preparations ahead of next week's season opener against Cardiff City Ladies.
The visitors started on the front-foot, going close with just two minutes played as Under-23 forward Kayleigh Currivan just poked an effort wide from a Leanne Bell cross.
Post and crossbar would deny the Hornets twice during the match, with Kat Huggins whipping in a fantastic left-footed cross which nearly snuck in but deflected back off of the woodwork.
With 15 minutes on the clock, Anna Re put a teasing ball towards the far post which looked destined to be headed home by Bell, but the midfielder was unable to keep her effort down.
Alysha Stojko-Down was impressing in the centre of the park and she was inches away from putting the Hornets ahead, collecting a rebound and firing a fierce shot just wide of the far post.
The bar would come to the home side's rescue again with half-an-hour played. Trialist whipped a great free-kick at goal, which flew over the reach of the keeper, but frustratingly just didn't fall underneath the crossbar.
Bell would go close again in the first half, but Kavaja's side were unable to finish their chances and the first 45 minutes ended goalless.
The second period continued in a similar frustrating fashion, Andie Dickens was just unable to connect with a ball inside the box, as the home goalkeeper gratefully collected.
Having gone 63 minutes without scoring, the Hornets scored three in four. Shakes scored her first with a smart finish on the turn inside the box, before Dickens won a penalty after being hauled down.
Hill stepped up, doubling the lead with a well-taken strike past the dive of the keeper.
The third goal of the afternoon came a minute later, and it was Shakes again. Bell made a darting run down the right, fizzing a ball across the box which the striker directed perfectly into the back of the net.
However, just a couple of minutes later the hosts had a consolation. It came from a quick break from the back, the midfielder making no mistake as she lifted the ball past the reach of Charlie Bolland in goal.
With the final chance of the game, Shakes grabbed the fourth - and her third - of the match. A superb pass was guided into her path, and with just the 'keeper to beat, she made no mistake hammering the ball into the far corner.
