Dahlberg: “I Have A Great Chance Here”

Swedish shot-stopper Pontus Dahlberg initially signed for the Golden Boys in January, but went back to IFK Göteborg on loan, before finally linking up with his teammates this summer.

Watch the young goalkeeper's first interview with the club via the Hornets' official YouTube channel, or read some key snippets, below.

“It feels very good to be here at a great club with great facilities. I have an opportunity to be a better player.

“I think many people in Sweden watch the Premier League a lot. It’s the best league in the world.

“After I signed I’ve been watching the games, they play really nice football and from what I’ve seen he fans seem to be really nice as well, and here at the stadium it's a nice place to play.

“It’s a great club and I’m looking forward to playing for them.”

“It’s been really good. They’ve been long days compared to back in Sweden.

“There’s been a lot of tests, a lot of training, but it feels great to be here and get started.

“Gomes and Foster have a lot of experience so it’s great to be training with them and to learn from them as well. I am positive about that.”

“It’s been really good for me to play these one-and-a-half seasons with IFK Goteborg, to get these matches in front of these full stadiums and to play senior football.

“I think it’s good for me as a person and as a football player to play these games.”

“I’ve always liked Ikea Casillas. He is now with FC Porto but when I started to look at him he was with Real Madrid.

“He is an amazing keeper, he has won the Champions League, the World Cup, everything you can win as a goalkeeper and a football player.

“He is the one I have been watching a lot when I was younger.”

“First of all I want to be a better player, and I think I have a great chance to do that here. The facilities and the staff here are amazing.

“There are so many guys to help you - from training in the gym, to the pitch.

“I want to be a better football player, then we’ll see after that.”

Ladies: Baker Joins Golden Girls

Watford FC Ladies is pleased to announce that Laura Baker is the newest addition to the squad, ahead of the upcoming season.

The midfielder was previously at Cambridge United, featuring regularly for them over the last four years in the Women's Premier League South East Division.

During the previous campaign Baker enjoyed a good goalscoring return, netting six times in 19 appearances.

Baker is excited about playing in the National League South with Watford: “It’s a massive club, with a good history but also I really want to push on this year on a personal level,” she explained, speaking to

“The FA Women's National League is a good league, and I think we’ve got a chance of challenging for the title with the players that we now have at the club.

“It’s a step up for me personally, and I’m just looking forward to pushing on with the club now.”

Having been with Cambridge for a number of years, the midfielder begins a new chapter with the Hornets, and has some clear aims for the season ahead.

“I want to play week in week out, like every player does, and just want to improve this year and commit to football and take it more seriously," she explained.

“When I was younger I played a lot more, but work began to take over. It’s nice now that I’ll be able to have a balance between work and football, and really be able to concentrate on the football side of things.

“I moved to London because of my job, and I have to do quite long hours every now and again. It was difficult at one time to balance things, and that's the reality of it, but now I’m in a position to do that and I'm hopeful that I can prove myself over the season.”

Baker scores from the spot for her former side

With it being the first season back at this level in five years for the Golden Girls, it seems the goals have been set high.

“I think it’s obvious that winning the league is what the coaches and management staff want,” Baker revealed.

“It’ll be really good for that to be drilled into the girls and for us to have that same ambition right from the off.”

Finally how would the new signing describe herself?

“I’m an attacking central midfielder. I feel I can add a bit of pace and goals to the team, so that’s hopefully something I’ll bring to the squad, and I just can't wait to get started.”
