Lancaster: “Every Single Player Was Outstanding”

By Kevin Affleck

Clinton Lancaster felt his ruthless Watford Ladies side showcased the depth of their squad as they put seven unanswered goals past Keynsham United on Sunday.

The Golden Girls were 2-0 up at the break when Lancaster took off Adekite Fatuga-Dada, who had scored the first and made the second, for Ryah Vyse just before the hour. That simply provided the stage for Andrea Carid, the forward who has represented Spain at football and Fustal, to help the home side cut loose.

She scored twice and made one for Katie O'Leary in the space of 12 riotous minutes and was an elusive figure as Helen Ward and Ocean Rolandsen completed the five-star second-half show.

“Ever single player was outstanding,” said Lancaster after a win that cements their position at the top of the Southern Premier Division. “The players who came on had a massive impact, in particular Andrea. She is an outstanding player. The passion and desire from the players to go and get more was just what we wanted.”

Carid, 26, had to settle for a place on the bench because of the form of Ward and Fatuga-Dada.

“Andrea is an outstanding player,” said Lancaster. “She was fantastic when she came on and proved a real point. It's credit to the players that we have five outstanding forwards. We had Anaisa Harney on the bench and she has been scoring lots of goals for the 23s and working so hard in training. We've got the rotation there and that's exactly what we want.”

The win was their seventh in a run of eight unbeaten games. The hard work was done in the first 45 minutes when they laid the foundation for the floodgates to open in the second half.

“We were a bit disappointed to only be two up as we were playing really well,” said Lancaster. “We could see they were tiring and I said to the girls at half-time there were more goals in this. They kept pushing and pushing and we some outstanding goals. They didn't want to stop.”

Just as satisfying to the Head Coach was the clean sheet, only their third of the season.

“We had to make changes at the back which were weren't initially looking to make,” he said. “The injury to Kat [Huggins on 78 minutes] was a shame but Hattie [Kettle] came on and put in a great shift at the back. There was clearly a desire to defend well. We haven't had many clean sheets. We have been scoring a lot of goals so the clean sheet is massive for us today. [Goalkeeper] Nina [Wilson] works really hard in training and the back three or four deserved a clean sheet. Everybody is in this together and that showed.”

The icing on the cake were first goals for the club for Vyse and Rolandsen.

“That's brilliant and they both deserve it,” said Lancaster. “They work so hard down the sides and I'm really pleased for them both.”
