Watford Welcomes: London Pride 2019

Last weekend saw the Proud Hornets, the supporters' group from the LGBT community and their friends, attend this year’s London Pride event.

Leading the way for floats from several Premier League clubs including Chelsea, West Ham and Crystal Palace, the Proud Hornets display drew a brilliant response from the huge crowds that descended upon central London on the day.

Watford FC staff representing multiple departments across the club were also in attendance, with more having helped with arrangements ahead of the day itself.

“The atmosphere was the best I have ever seen in my many years of Pride” said Peter, a season ticket holder and co-founder of the group.

“I’ve seen estimates of 1.5 million spectators which I can believe having seen how packed it was. There were dozens of ‘Come on you ‘Orns’ shouts from the crowd and we met with lots of fans after who came up to chat when they saw the shirts.

“We’d like to thank everyone at the club who came along or helped with the planning, not least Harry the Hornet, who despite struggling with the heat had an amazing energy and was loved by the crowds!”

For more details about the Proud Hornets, and for details on how to join this fast-growing supporters' group, please visit their website. You can also find the Proud Hornets on their Facebook group and follow them on Twitter @ProudHornets.

The club are also hugely grateful to Alan Day Volkswagen, via Watford FC Ladies, for the use of a vehicle and to A&F Scaffolding, who helped us meet the safety criteria for the float.
